Elimination round
General: The elimination round is based on competition in ‘pools’. Each ‘pool’ plays on adjacent butts. The tournament will be arranged so that archers change lanes and shooting sides regularly. There are no byes, but ‘pools’ can be incomplete. In the elimination round each competitor will shoot 5 matches (5 x 12 = 60 arrows), competing against all other competitors in the ‘pool’ (round robin). Promotion to the semi-finals is according to ‘pool ranking’ as well as on ‘score ranking’. After each ‘set’ the two competitors determine the scores. In case of doubt judges will give a decisive verdict based on FITA regulations. Scores are to be recorded on the personal scorecards by a lane-agent or by the archer himself. Competitors are to check the correct recording of the scores before removing the arrows from the target. In the elimination round archers shall remove their arrows from the target themselves, unless a different arrangement is agreed upon with the judges. The progressive score of an archer is displayed by the lane-agent at a flip score in front of the butt.
Dropout: After a dropout due to a technical defect only the current ‘end’ can be continued. The archer has to be back on the shooting line before ‘end of shooting’; missed scores in preceding ‘ends’ will be recorded as ‘miss’.
Ties: In case of a ‘winners tie’ and/or a ‘pretenders tie’, a shoot-off type A (possibly followed by a shoot-off type B) will determine the competitors for the semi-finals.
Specific: Number of competitors: 36/18. Competitors are partitioned into 6/3 ‘pools’, to be determined by drawing lots in a directed procedure. Competitors of the same team shall not be placed in one ‘pool’ (depending on the number of team members). The ‘pools’ are numbered A B C D E F, and divided into 2 groups (or 1 in case of Women’s Class): {A, B, C} and {D, E, F}. These groups shoot alternating on the 9 ‘target lanes’ with an interval of one ‘match’, starting with group {A, B, C}.
Men: At the end of the elimination round in each ‘pool’ the ‘pool ranking’ determines the winner and second-best, who will unquestionable qualify for the semi-finals. Besides these winners and second-bests, 4 competitors will qualify for the semi-finals according to ‘score ranking’.
Women: At the end of the elimination round in each ‘pool’ the ‘pool ranking’ determines the winner and second-best, who will unquestionable qualify for the semi-finals. Besides these winners and second-bests, 2 competitors will qualify for the finals according to ‘score ranking’. Thus the Women’s Class skips the semi-finals.
Semi-finals (men only)
Number of competitors: 16 (6 winners, 6 second-bests, 4 archers on ‘score ranking’ from the elimination round). The initial ranking (IR) of the semi-finalists is according to their ‘score ranking’ after the elimination round. They are divided into series 1= {1,3,5,7,10,12,14,16} and series 2= {2,4,6,8,9,11,13,15} (also see Fixed schedule > Semi-finals header below). In each series the pairing of competitors is lowest IR versus highest IR successively.
Shooting procedure: Competitors will shoot alternately, one arrow at a time. Compulsory order of shooting at the ‘target face’: Top-Middle-Bottom. Wrong target= score M (nil). Shooting time allowed per arrow: 20 (green) + 10 (yellow) = 30 seconds. One archer starts the odd sets, the other archer starts the even sets. The judge will draw lots to decide who starts the odd sets. Competitors remain behind the shooting line. The (semi-)finalists need 2 sets of arrows. After each end judges decide on the scores. These judgements are decisive and directly shown to competitors and spectators. Competitors who win 4 sets (‘best of seven’) proceed to the finals.
Finals
Number of competitors: 8. The initial ranking (IR) of the finalists is according to their ‘score ranking’ at the end of the semi-finals (of the elimination round in case of the Women’s Class). Pairing is according to lowest IR versus highest IR successively. The procedure of shooting is according to the shooting procedure in the semi-finals (‘best of seven’).
Finally
If situations should arise for which no provisions are made in these regulations, the tournament board (1 member of the tournament organisation + chairman-judge) will decide how to act. In other cases the organising committee of the tournament makes a decision.
