  • Competitors of one tie shoot simultaneously one ‘end’ with the usual time control.
  • In case of a (partial) non-decision, the remaining competitors proceed with a shoot-off type B.

Shoot-off type B (‘closest to centre’)

Elimination round

General: The elimination round is based on competition in ‘pools’. Each ‘pool’ plays on adjacent butts. The tournament will be arranged so that archers change lanes and shooting sides regularly. There are no byes, but ‘pools’ can be incomplete. In all elimination rounds each competitor will shoot 5 matches (5 x 12 = 60 arrows), competing against all other competitors in the ‘pool’ (round robin). Promotion to the next round is according to ‘pool ranking’ as well as on ‘score ranking’. After each end the two competitors determine the scores. In case of doubt judges will give a decisive verdict based on FITA regulations. Scores are to be recorded on the personal scorecards by a lane-agent or by the archer himself. Competitors are to check the correct recording of the scores before removing the arrows from the target. In all elimination rounds archers shall remove their arrows from the target themselves, unless a different arrangement is agreed upon with the judges. The progressive score of an archer is displayed by the lane-agent at a flip score in front of the butt.

Dropout: After a dropout due to a technical defect only the current ‘end’ can be continued. The archer has to be back on the shooting line before ‘end of shooting’; missed scores in preceding ‘ends’ will be recorded as ‘miss’.

Ties: In case of a ‘winners tie’ and/or a ‘pretenders tie’, a shoot-off type A (possibly followed by a shoot-off type B) will determine the competitors for the next round.

Preliminary elimination round (round 0) for men categories only

Number of competitors: 96. Competitors are partitioned into 16 ‘pools’, to be determined by drawing lots in a directed procedure. There are two preliminary sessions of 8 ‘pools’ each. From the whole category of 96 archers, 48 athletes continue in the 1st elimination round. The 16 winners and 16 second-bests of these 16 pools on ‘pool ranking’ unquestionably proceed to round 1, while 16 others proceed on ‘score ranking’. In case of a ‘winners tie’ and/or a ‘pretenders tie’, a shoot-off type A (possibly followed by a shoot-off type B) will determine the competitors for round 1.

1st ELIMINATION ROUND (ROUND 1) FOR ALL CATEGORIES

Number of competitors: 48. Competitors are partitioned into 8 ‘pools’, to be determined by drawing lots in a directed procedure. At the end of round 1 in each ‘pool’ the ‘pool ranking’ determines the winner and second-best, who will unquestionable qualify for the next round. Besides these 8 winners and 8 second-bests, 8 competitors will qualify for the next round according to ‘score ranking’. In case of a ‘winners tie’ and/or a ‘pretenders tie’, a shoot-off type A (possibly followed by a shoot-off type B) will determine the competitors for round 2.

2nd ELIMINATION ROUND (ROUND 2) FOR ALL CATEGORIES

Number of competitors: 24 (8 ‘pool’ winners, 8 second-bests, 8 on ‘score ranking’ from the 1st elimination round). Competitors are partitioned into 4 ‘pools’, determined by a fixed schedule. This schedule implies an equal number of winners, second-bests and bests on ‘score ranking’ in each ‘pool’. At the end of round 2 ‘pool ranking’ determines the 4 winners and 4 second-bests who unquestionably qualify for round 3, ‘score ranking’ determines 4 other competitors to proceed to round 3. In case of a ‘winners tie’ or a ‘pretenders tie’, shoot-off type A (possibly followed by shoot-off type B) will determine the competitors for the round 3.

3rd ELIMINATION ROUND (ROUND 3) FOR ALL CATEGORIES

Number of competitors: 12 (4 winners, 4 second-bests, 4 on ‘score ranking’ from round 2). Competitors are divided into 2 ‘pools’, determined by a fixed schedule. This schedule implies an equal division of winners, second-bests and bests on ‘score ranking’ from round 2 into both ‘pools’ of round 3. At the end of round 3 in both ‘pools’ the ‘pool ranking’ determines the winner and second-best to qualify for the semi-finals. In case of a ‘winners tie’ a shoot-off type A (possibly followed by a shoot-off type B) will determine the semi-finalists.

SEMI-FINALS

Number of competitors: 4 (2 winners and 2 second-bests from round 3). In the semi-finals each winner of a ‘pool’ in the preceding 3rd selection round will compete against the second-best of the other ‘pool’ from selection round 3 (two matches, the one after the other).
Shooting procedure: Competitors will shoot alternately, one arrow at a time. Compulsory order of shooting at the ‘target face’: Top-Middle-Bottom. Wrong target = score M (nil). Shooting time allowed per arrow: 20 (green) + 10 (yellow) = 30 seconds. One archer starts the odd sets, the other archer starts the even sets. The judge will draw lots to decide who starts shooting. Competitors remain on the shooting line. (Semi-)finalists need 2 sets of arrows. After each end judges decide on the scores. These judgements are decisive and directly shown to competitors and spectators. The competitor who wins 4 sets (‘best of seven’) proceeds to the final for place 1 and 2, the loser will compete in the final for place 3.

FINALS

Number of competitors: 4 (2 winners and 2 losers from the semi-finals). Winners of the semi-finals for place 1 and 2, losers of the semi-finals for place 3. The procedure of shooting is according to the procedure of shooting in the semi-finals (‘best of seven’).

QUESTIONS AND DISPUTES (also see FITA Rule Book 8.10)

Questions about a value in the target will be decided by a single judge; the decision of that judge is final. There is no jury of appeal.

Finally

If situations should arise for which no provisions are made in these regulations, the tournament board (1 member of the tournament organisation + chairman-judge) will decide how to act. In other cases the organising committee of the tournament will decide.
