Face 2 Face Archery Tournament Introduction

The concept of the Face 2 Face (F2F) Archery tournament was born in the Netherlands in the late 1980’s. Four members of the Netherlands Archery Federation took up the challenge to make archery more attractive for the modern world of mass media, which is nowadays important to keep our sport in the Olympics. The main philosophy behind this new event is indoor, short matches only, adapted knock-out system so that good performing archers will not be knocked out before the (semi) finals, and last but not least transparent and exiting for archers and spectators. The FITA Indoor Match Round has much in common with the F2F tournament, with elimination of half of the number of competitors in each Elimination Round. Main difference is the F2F concept of playing all Elimination Rounds in poules (groups) of six archers each, competing in a round robin system. To a next elimination round in the F2F proceed the 2 best out of each poule of 6, completed with the archers with highest scores.

The F2F format was successful and the concept did not die, even when the event was no longer organized in the southern part of the Netherlands. In 2002 another four enthusiastic archery friends from the city of Amsterdam decided to give the F2F a restart and make it a main archery Indoor event in the capital of the Netherlands. The result are the Amsterdam F2F editions of 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 and next November 2010. It has to be mentioned that the total organization of the F2F is the work of volunteers only. The foundation CAT, organizers of the F2F, operates on a non-profit base. Thanks to our sponsors and partners we can organize this huge event, where only the best archers in the world show the beauty of our sport to the whole world.
